Wellness Recovery Action Plan (WRAP)
NAMI Sonoma County provides weekly workshops to inmates at the Sonoma County Detention Facility utilizing the Wellness Recovery Action Plan (WRAP) format. These workshops help inmates who have mental health challenges develop plans for managing and recovering from their mental illness.
Inmates who are incarcerated and have a serious mental health challenge are in desperate need for supportive services beyond medical and psychiatric care. Anyone who suffers from a serious mental health challenge often feel isolated, alone and hopeless. WRAP serves to help these inmates know they are not alone, the outside community does care and there are ways they can cope and eventually recover from their illness even while being incarcerated.
Similar to its first year, we will serve 300 inmates through the WRAP program. We will conduct surveys on a quarterly basis recognizing that there is not a consistency of participation. We also will gather assessment from inmates who have graduated from the jail PATHS program which WRAP falls under as part of their curriculum.
This past year we served over 300 inmates and although we have not yet gathered evaluations we continue to receive feedback from the inmates themselves of their appreciation and positive receptiveness to the program.
