Suicide & The Elderly: Risks & Prevention Community Forum on September 18
On Wednesday, September 18, 2019, community members are invited to a presentation and panel discussion on suicide prevention and risks in older adults. The forum will be held from 5:30 – 7:00 PM at the Person Senior Wing of the Finley Center (2060 College Avenue, Santa Rosa).
The forum is organized by the Sonoma County Mental Health Advisory Board for community members, family members, and caregivers. It follows an open meeting of the Sonoma County Mental Health Advisory Board, from 5:00 – 5:30 PM. At this forum, community members will learn practical information about risk factors, early recognition, and prevention.
The featured speaker for the evening will be Patrick Arbore, EdD. Dr. Arbore is the Founding Director of the Center for Elderly Suicide Prevention at the Institute on Aging in San Francisco. He is a nationally recognized expert in the field of older adult suicide prevention and grief services, and has devoted his life to increasing awareness of isolation, loneliness, and depression in older adults. He is also the founding director of the San Francisco-based Friendship Line, an accredited emotional support and crisis helpline for people 60 years and older.
