Housing Resources

The following local programs offer administrative assistance with housing for individuals and families in Sonoma County, particularly those experiencing mental health challenges.


Sonoma County Coordinated Entry System

The Coordinated Entry System (CES) is a “no wrong door” approach for families and individuals experiencing homelessness to access emergency shelter and housing resources. CES aims to streamline the process to qualify for shelter and housing programs, with programs including Rapid Rehousing, Transitional Housing, Emergency Shelter, and Permanent Supportive Housing. CES also publishes a guide to shelter and housing services

Catholic Charities

Catholic Charities offers help with finding housing, including Section 8 Application process assistance. Staff aid those applying to Section 8 vouchers to go over the application process step by step.

Buckelew Resource Clinic

Hosted every Tuesday from 3-4:30 PM. Family members, consumers, peers and service providers (age 18+) are all welcome to join. Family Service Coordination through Buckelew also offers support and system navigation to the loved ones supporting and individual who is struggling with mental health challenges. Services also include support and referrals for homeless resources.

Disability Services and Legal Center

The Housing Search Assistance Program focuses on providing housing search information, training, and referral to people with disabilities seeking accessible and affordable housing. DSLC also keeps a database of current listings in Sonoma County which clients are free to browse without an appointment. 

By appointment only. Attendance at orientation, held every Monday at 1:30 PM, is mandatory to begin service.

Fair Housing Advocates of Sonoma County – Petaluma People’s Center

Provides free housing counseling, information, and referrals for landlords and tenants in the areas of housing discrimination, landlord-tenant relationships, laws, and practices. Call and ask for a Fair Housing Specialist to make an appointment.

La Luz Center

Provides referrals to fair housing counseling, as well as information on fair housing through connections with Legal Aid Attorneys, Petaluma People Services, and other resources.

Sonoma County Housing Authority (SCHA)

Offers assistance with the Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher program for families with young children; working families; persons with disabilities; and seniors. They also offer a Family Self-Sufficiency program, which is a Section 8 program designed to assist SCHA clients in becoming independent of public assistance. The five-year program helped very low-income families receive rental assistance, along with support services designed to assist the family in overcoming barriers to employment.

This is a separate program from the City of Santa Rosa Section 8; clients are recommended to apply for both.

West County Community Services

WCCS offers support services with individual case plans for residents in need of social and conflict management skills, employment, medical attention, financial guidance, and other resources to help them maintain stable housing and improve their well-being. Also offers the Rapid Rehousing program, which is an effort to reduce homelessness in the lower Russian River area through financial assistance and supportive services.

Rapid Rehousing program requires referral through CES.
